Among our substantial callers this week were: Dr. W. W. Hickman, J. L.
Brewer, W. H. Ethridge, W. J. Clark, N. Carr, W. F. McMillin, C. C. Huntley, D.
E. McMillin, D. A. Gillett, A. P. Hull, J. T. Ward, J. H. Young.
Mr. W. D. Kelly gave us a substantial call yesterday. He informed us that he
had added considerable to his mercantile business west of here and was doing a
good business.
Capt. M. A. Coleman, on of our county’s cleverest citizens paid our
office a substantial call yesterday.
News reaches here of the death of Mrs. Amanda Fleetwood at her home near
Fearn Springs last Saturday, November 26th, 1904. She had been ill for some
time.
Died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Brasfield on November 17, 1904,
Mr. J. M. Bennett, age 86. He had been in fading health for some months. His
remains were laid to rest in Masonic Cemetery beside his those of his late
wife. He leaves a number of children and grandchildren.
We are glad to add Mr. L. D. McMillin of Whitney, Texas to our list of
readers.
Capt. J. M. Gillespie, a substantial citizen of Lowndes County, is visiting
his cousin, Maj. Gillespie this week.
Mr. Henry Adcock was up from Handle Tuesday and informed us that he had sold
his farm down there, realizing $16 per acre for same.
Mr. F. M. Shields, who has been in feeble health for some time, left a few
days ago for Los Angeles, Calif., where he expects to visit his daughter until
January. We hope his visit to that fine country may prove beneficial to
him.
Oakley Bennett came down from Starkville on account of the death of his
grandfather. Oakley is now clerking for Gunn Bros., one of Starkville’s
best firms.
Mr. P. B. Whites returned from Memphis last week where he had been to take
his daughter, Miss Isabella, to St. Joseph hospital for treatment. She has been
a cripple for several years and it is sincerely hoped she may receive relief at
this famous hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Harvey, who have been here the past month left for Newton
Tuesday. Mr. Harvey is an efficient Civil Engineer and has done considerable
work in town.
Mr. Henry Adcock yesterday purchased Mr. Tom Estes’ place 3-1/2 miles
south of town containing 80 acres for $1000.
Geo. D. Eichelberger was up from the eastern part of the county Monday.
