December 13, 1929

Hickory Grove: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Adron Whitehead, a fine boy on December 1st.

Hickory Grove: Mr. and Mrs. Everett Presley are admiring their twins who made their arrival on November 26th.

Hickory Grove: The schoolteacher and pupils packed a delicious lunch and hiked over to Mr. Joe Moody’s pond and enjoyed a delightful picnic. Mr. Moody showed his kindness by giving them a nice lot of gum and candy, nuts and drinks.

Bond: Mary Elsie is the name of the fine little lady born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert McLeod on December 1st.

J. D. Stewart, one of Poplarville’s good citizens, visited his daughter, Mrs. Joe Mitchell, the past week. While here he also visited his old home community, Fearn Springs.

Miss Mary Summers Webster of Louisville graduated from Ivey Hospital in West point as a nurse on the 29th.

Noxapater: B. F. McBrayer is staging a big merchandise sale beginning Thursday.

Noxapater: The teachers of the public school enjoyed the hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Clay at Stallo Saturday evening when they were entertained at a six o’clock dinner.

Noxapater: J. S. Stokes, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stokes, had the misfortune to fall and break his arm Monday afternoon.

Noxapater: Mrs. Syl Smyth and baby of Louisville are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Vanlandingham, this week.

This book has material from the Winston Index, 1880 (list of over 500 Civil War Soldiers of Winston County who died from wounds, on the battlefield, or disease, or as POWs in Northern Prisons), and excerpts from The Winston Signal (newspaper before the present day Winston County Journal) for the years of 1883, 1890, 1891, 1892 and 1893.  It is indexed by surname. 

This publication follows his first volume that included excerpts from The Winston Signal for the years 1882,1885, 1886, 1889 and some issues of 1890 and which is still available from the author.

Louis Taunton has published several other books.  He has also published similar columns about Choctaw and Webster Counties.
