100 and 75 Years Ago

We thank Mrs. Ira Cornwell of Leeds, S. C. for a renewal of her
subscription, who always speaks kindly of the Journal.
A two years subscription was received from our old friend, J. J. Suttle of
Denver, Colo., this week, who sends a hello word to all of his old home
friends.
Our long time subscriber O. L. Shaw sends us a five dollar bill this week
and says let the old reliable continue his way, that he is always glad to hear
from his old friends back home. Oscar is now one of the rich Delta’s most
successful plants, and resides at Webb.
A. L. Knight, who for the past several months was proprietor of
Knight’s Market here, sold same to the Clarence Saunders Store last week,
he returning to his home in Ellisville.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cooper a fine boy on January 13th.
Bond: The Boys Basketball Team is made up of J. D. and Barney Ward, Buster
Alewine, Tom McLeod and Emmett Hill. The Girls Basketball Team is made up of:
Vera Ward, Ottie Lee Carroll, Iva Barnhill, Irene Jenkins, Mozell Cockrell and
Frances McGahey.
Bond: Mr. Robert McLeod left last week for New Mexico.
Bond: We regret the passing away of Mr. John Cockrell. He only lived a few
hours after he was taken sick.
Betheden: Supt. McAllily and the trustees, Messrs. Brooks Rieves, Jodie
Moorehead and Tom McNeil were welcome visitors at the schoolhouse Tuesday
morning.
Claytown: Born to Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Womble, a boy on January 10th.
Ellison Ridge: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hemphill are greatly rejoicing over the
arrival of their bouncing baby girl who arrived on the 13th of January.
Noxapater: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCool a son on the 14th of
January.
Noxapater: Rev. and Mrs. B. L. McKee announce the arrival of a son, Howard
Lee, at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson on the 10th of January.
Claytown: A birthday party dinner was given in the home of Mr. W. H. Tucker
Thursday in honor of his father.
Gum Branch: We are glad to welcome Mr. and Mrs. O’Bryant back in our
community, after spending the holidays with their home folks.
Noxapater: Prof. Dickson and little son, Alex, Jr., visited relatives at
Alligator, the past weekend.
