BOYD, John; b. bef. 1840; possibly in Carthage ?, Leake Co., MS. (Parentage entirely unknown / spouse unknown). He died aft. 1906, probably in either LA. or AR. He is known to have had a son named "J.J." who was born in Leake Co., MS. (IAW death certif.) in 1859. This son later married a woman from adjacent Winston Co., MS. named Martha Jane Prisock. I have been unable to obtain any details regarding JOHN BOYD except that in the late 1880's, he accompanied his son's family from Winston Co. into the town of Koskiusko, from which they crossed into AR. and settled for a short time in McGehee, AR. They all eventually moved and settled in the Choudrant, LA. area. Photographic evidence demonstrates that JOHN BOYD was alive in 1906 (LA.) and the absence of a wife in the photo suggests that she may have died even before the family left MS. I have been unable to access Census records for this family for 1860,1870, or 1880. It would be expected that the family would be resident in either Leake or Winston Counties during those years. "J.J." was the only known child. "Grandpa Boyd" was the only name the old gentleman was known by to living family members but the name JOHN was listed on "J.J's" death certificate as well as the birthplace of MS. The certificate says "unknown" in regards to "J.J.'s" mother, which would be a further indication that she died (in MS.) when "J.J." was young. I have located two marriage records in Leake Co. (early 1850's) which might refer to our JOHN. One was to a woman named Susan BOYD and the other to a Percilla POWELL. I haven't been able to locate death info on either of these woman, so I don't know if they could be the missing wife. Thanks. John C. Sears JSears2111@aol.com

AL before that Co. was formed. He is there in the late teens as his home was one of the first three polling places. James and family were in Pickins Co. on the 1830 census. In 1835 James signed a 99 year lease on some "school land" in Winston Co. MS. In Jan. of 1844 he sold this lease and moved to AR probably Drew Co. Several of his chn. married in Winston Co. ie, Susan to Wm. F. Johnson, Stokely to Shelby Mcleod 2nd Elizabeth Howard and Elizabeth to Deal Jackson or Jackson Deal. Another individual I'm tracing with Winston Co. roots is James FULLERTON Jr. He was born 1800 in Ireland came to US in 1817 and married 2nd Elizabeth Ellison on 2 Feb. 1841 in Winston Co. He died shortly afterward and Elizaberh is on the 1850 census in Winston as a widow. James had two chn. who lived to full age Margaret Elvira 1829-1919 and Juliett Elmira 1831-1865. Minnie' parents name were Fred Nick Dancy and Quantillia Spain or Spainn. Fred was born on July 1, 1896 and died 1987. I don't have any info on the Dancy side of the family. All these people lived in Shuqualak,MS. Except John G. Hyde. The name, Feemster is from my mother side. My grandfather was Charles Feemster and he married a Mattie Harmon or Hermon. I do not have any dates on Charles Feemster, but they did lived Macon, MS. I have made contact with John G. Hyde's grgrgranddaughter, but she didn't have too much on her grgrgrandfather. I know he was born in Georgia and moved the MS around the 1840s. He was married to a Martha and they had about six children. One of the children,Elizabeth married John Cockrell (not sure of the spelling). I don't if Millie was a gift from John G. Hyde's father in Georgia, but they were the same age. John G. Hyde died in 1858 and his wife,Martha and children were mention in his will. My grgrgrandmother, Millie wasn't in the will, but somewhere in the MS Slave Schedule, Martha Hide is there with eleven slaves. I also saw John Cockrell there. The area, I am researching is Noxubee and Winston counties. I am also trying to locate a cemetary on the Anderson place. My aunt said, the cemetary was destroyed when a dam was build, but my cousin said it is still there. If it is, I was told the name of the cemetary is Mohican on Mohican Road. It might be covered with weeds woods and have snakes. The cemetary was closed for a long time. Thanks

He was supposedly wounded and eventually died from wound complications. His wife Narcisa LANCASTER appears on Winston Co. Census by herself withouT Anson is listed as born in South Carolina. Co. in 1860. His son, David Jasper Newton GREENLEE was my husband's great grandfather. DJN's son, David Clarence GREENLEE, stated that DJN's mother was-----------
SHOEMAKER or SCHUMACHER. On the 1850 census for Winston Co.:
Hugh GREENLEE, 53, born NC; Catharine GREENLEE, 44, NC; Jasper, 17, AL; Nancy, 11, MS; Mary, 9, MS; Delilah, 7, MS;  Andrew, 5, MS; Mezemiah (female), 2, MS
We believe that Hugh had older children but do not have names for them. If you will notice, there is such an age gap between Jasper (DJN) and Nancy, I believe that these latter children are from a second marriage. Need info on Aris Alexander or any of his family listed in the following biography: b. around 1815 South Carolina m. Nicey Jane Skinner b. around 1822 South Carolina. He, his wife, and children most probably died in Mississippi. The last date found indicating they were still alive, was Saturday, September 8, 1860, when the U.S. Census was taken at the family home in Winston County, Mississippi. LINEAGE - PARENTS: John and Mary "Polly" Woodham Alexander - PATERNAL GRANDMOTHER: Frances (nee?) Alexander - MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS: Edward, Jr. and Mary (nee?) Woodham - MATERNAL G-GRANDPARENTS: Edward, Sr. and Eleanor (nee?) Woodham CHILDREN - 1. James S. Alexander - 2. Leonard Alexander - 3. Nancy Alexander - 4. John Alexander - 5. William Alexander - 6. V.W. Alexander NOTES · Census references are: 1840 Darlington County, South Carolina ; 1850 Darlington County, South Carolina ; 1860 Louisville Township, Winston County, Mississippi ; and 1870 Neshoba County, Mississippi. · Both the 1840 and 1850 South Carolina U.S. Census surveys show Aris' family to have lived in the Second Division Township of Darlington County, South Carolina where Aris was listed as a farmer. · According to a Mississippi census (separate from the U.S. Census), Aris and Nicey's children all attended school. The same census survey states that Aris had a personal estate valued at $6,000, and real estate valued at $2,000. The census shows that many of the same people listed in Aris' neighborhood in Mississippi were born in South Carolina. Two other Alexanders were listed as "Head of Household" in the Louisville Township survey. They were J.G. Alexander, a carpenter who was born in Alabama , and W.H. Alexander, a farmer born in South Carolina around 1824. · The 1860 census in Winston County, Mississippi was taken on Saturday, September 8th, 1860. All of Aris' known family was alive at that time, including the youngest three children who were not included in the 1850 census taken back in South Carolina. The youngest three were born in Mississippi . · The 1870 census finds Aris in Neshoba County (adjacent to Winston County), Mississippi . It was taken Monday, June 20, 1870 showing Aris' location as Philadelphia Post Office. The list of children in this newer census shows more children in the household - all born between the 1860 and 1970 censuses. They were probably Aris' grandchildren. · The census' hand-written script is difficult to decipher, but it looks like Aris' real estate value at that time was around $1000. · It's likely that Aris was named after his uncle, Aris Woodham, Sr. · Nicey was a daughter of Lemuel and Nicey Jane Belk Skinner. · As evidenced in the census, Nicey’s name has also been seen as "Nicy" and "Nice". · 1870 found Aris in neighboring Neshoba County, so he may be buried there.
