------------ Hello, I was very pleased to find the Winston County MSGenWeb site online and have had great success finding information on many of my ancestors. I noticed, when using the marriage index located at http://winston.msgen.info/marriages/marriages.htm , that I often find marriage dates there that are a few days before the marriage dates I have located elsewhere. Can you tell me if the dates that are contained in that index are the dates of the marriage licenses or the dates of the marriages themselves? I reviewed the site extensively and couldn’t find an indication one way or the other.RESPONSE: These records show the marriage licenses issued dates, when they obtained the locenses. Marriage licenses are not a 100% reflection of all marriages, for some the bride may be another lady and not the lady named and the spelling and surnames may not always be correct. Marriage certificates are also rare in Mississippi, which would normaly show the actual date of the marriage and the correct spelling of names, plus other information. ------------ I am looking for information on G.W. Weeks (Grisom),
who married Margaret Shaw in Winston County in early 1850.
